Living in the Adelaide Hills, inspiration is always just a step outside with a vast array of wildlife and farm animals. The slight obsession with drawing animals and giving them an abundance of personality started when Mandy was about 2 as far as she can remember... with chalk, on her grandparents pavement.
Only then they didn’t look like animals or anything much for that matter. After graduating from the University of South Australia in 1992 completing a Bachelor of Design specialising in Illustration, a beeline for the Adelaide Zoo marked the beginning of a career as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer and a wonderful relationship with the Zoo Education Service spanning over a decade, drawing enough animals to fill an encyclopedia.
In 1997 as a member of the Wildlife Art Society, Mandys stunning head portrait of a zebra was awarded best exhibit in the Wildlife Exhibition commemorating the opening of the Monarto Zoo Visitor’s Centre and still hangs there to this day. In her spare time (when not drawing vacuum riding dinosaurs for her son Joshy) Mandy is an avid horse lover and loves spending time with her ponies. That passion of animals is now also shared as a very successful published illustrator of best selling childrens books since 2009, predominantly with an Australian theme.
